Makeup Favorites of 2018

Hello everyone.

First of all, I’d like to wish you all the best in the New Year 2019. My biggest wish for you all is that you are healthy and everything else will come afterward!

2018. was actually the year where I wrote only a small number of posts and I keep wanting to come back all the time, but it seems like I’m really bad at organizing my own free time and most of the time I’d rather simply sit down, turn on my Netflix and use the time for myself. Also, another thing, I like to write my posts during the nighttime because it’s the time I function the best, or better said, it’s the time I have the most peace and quiet and I can concentrate the most. Lately, I tend to fall asleep the same time like my baby girl  I’m definitively working on myself to get things better organized and so I hope you will get to chance to read my posts more often from now on.

The fact that I’ve been writing such a small number of posts didn’t stop me from trying out tons of new cosmetics. The most of it was in the first part of the year when I was really experimenting with anything and everything, from face powders to eyeshadows. And in the second part of the year, I realized that I keep hanging on to some of the same products and that I found some of my favorites I don’t plan to be without at least for a while. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to try out some new products, but I’m the kind of person that always likes to have some products in my cosmetics bag that are reliable and that I really love. I don’t think I’m going to write a post about preparative cosmetics because I really kept those products at a minimum and I’d say I’m pretty boring when these products are in question because I’m pretty sure I found some of my favorites.

So, enough of the intro, now I’m going to start typing about my favorites and I’m going to say a couple of words about each product. I thought it would be best if I start to write in some kind of an order in which I put my makeup on so I don’t end up forgetting some of the products. And at the end of the post, I’m going to post links for all the products I can find!

I always start my makeup routine with a primer. I know that many of you don’t need it and you don’t see the point of using it, but I’m not one of those people. My skin really needs a primer and I can absolutely see the difference if I’m using one or not. My skin is normal at the moment, but it’s slightly pulling towards dry so my favorite primers are Smashbox Photofinish oil primer or Becca Backlight Priming Filter. Becca primer would be my definite favorite for 2018. and from what you can see, mine is completely empty at the moment, but I managed to find a perfect replacement for it. This primer is a bit thicker in its consistency with some reflecting particles and it works perfectly for your makeup base. To replace it, I found, no more or less, the ICONIC London highlighter in the shade Original. Iconic drops I had for a while now in two shades and I think they work great as a highlighter, but if I’d use them only as a highlighter, I wouldn’t empty it for a couple of years and that’s why I found another use for it. I put the drops literally over my whole face and after that, I use the foundation. And no, your face won’t be all glossy, instead, after you apply the foundation it will look phenomenal whole day long.

After I applied the primer, I start with the base or the foundation. So far, I tried out a lot of different brands, L.A. Girl, Milani, Huda Beauty, Revolution, but my definite favorites are NARS Sheer Glow and TOO FACED Born This Way. I’m not one of those who likes the heavy matte foundations. I like my foundation to have good coverage but also not to dry my skin out and that it looks as natural as it possibly can. And this is a trait you will definitely get with the NARS Sheer Glow. Every time I use it, I get only words of praise. Its coverage is medium but it still covers up all the imperfections perfectly and it doesn’t make my face look like it’s cemented. It’s not matte, but it won’t you’re your skin glow when you finish your complete makeup routine. I have one in the shade Stromboli and it happens I can use this shade during the whole year period. The advantage of living in a big city is that you can easily take your time and try it all out to find exactly the shade that fits your skin tone because when I order it online I miss the shade almost everytime.

My second favorite is TOO FACED Born This Way in the shade Golden Beige, but this is a shade I like to use during the summer and as you can see, it’s almost empty. Its coverage is medium to high and it will really cover up every little imperfection. For me, it works miracles and I think it’s great.

After the foundation, in my routine, it’s time for the concealers and I really love them because the bags under my eyes are huge no matter if I slept well or not. So, I like to try them out also and I empty them in no time. My favorites for years now have been RIMMEL Wake me up in the shade Classic Beige and MAYBELLINE Fit Me! In the shade 20. Now, I’m going to add a new one to my old favorites, BARRY M All Night Long concealer in the shade Cookie. It was actually a revelation my by one of my friends and I think it’s great. And you get it for an affordable price of 20 HRK. It’s very similar to the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer which is great, but a bit too expensive.
All of the above-mentioned concealers have great coverage and they won’t soak into your small wrinkles and they will stay on the whole day.

From the setting powders, I also have favorites and I really love it. It’s the TOO FACED Born This Way setting powder. You won’t believe this, but I almost emptied it so you can say for sure I love it and I will definitely buy it again in a couple of days. It’s actually very similar to the cult Laura Mercier powder so, in case you have that one you know exactly what to expect. The only flaw I don’t like is its packaging which looks beautiful but it’s not very functional so I always end up putting a small amount in one of the smaller boxes I own. With it, you won’t be looking like you fell into a case of flour and it will set your whole face perfectly.

With bronzers, I don’t do experiments almost never and for about a year now I’ve been using one and the same. It’s BENEFIT Hoola and I plan to use it also during the next year.

Also, another thing I don’t do experiments with are the blushes because I like peachy shades the most and there is no need to stack them up. I’ve been trying out the Mac blushes a bit, but nevertheless, I always return to my favorite brand which is the SLEEK blush in the shade Rose Gold.

We continue with the highlighters and they’re my favorite products from the eyeshadow palettes. These are, unfortunately for me, the products that go into the category “Gotta get them all” 😀 My most favorite and the most used one this year were INGLOT X JLO in the shade Livin’ The Highlight and DOLL BEAUTY in the shade Like a Diamond. There are no words to describe how much I love them, and the shades are much like golden champagne color.

From the eye pencils, I love the one and only and it is the BENEFIT Precisely My Brown Pencil shade 5. I also tried out their GoofProof pencil, but it didn’t work out for me. Precisely my brow is very precise. It’s easy to work with and it lasts the whole day. The downside is that it’s easy to empty especially if you draw your eyebrows every day.

Among the eyeshadows, that is, eyeshadow palettes, I reached the most for the ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Soft Glam palette which fits perfectly with all my daily, but also my evening looks. The other one is MORPHE Jaclyn Hill palette and with this one, you actually don’t need another one. These two palettes went with me to all my travels because with them you can create any look you could possibly want. It happens I have really a lot of different eyeshadow palettes and I’m trying to use and try them all out, I use a different one every other week and I rotate them. Because, if I don’t do this, then I catch onto one and I don’t move away from it. And like this, I can use them all and each and everyone gets its five minutes of fame 😀

I could really type a lot to the subject of palettes because I like them all in a different way, but these two were my top favorites. So I decided to stick with them for now. And, of course, in case I want something colorful on my eyes, I use the Juvias palette.

From the other eyeshadows, pigments, and glitter I’d like to mention STILA Glitter and Glow products and LA SPLASH and Peaches pigments and glitter. I can’t specify one color or shade specifically because I think they’re all pretty much great.

With the mascaras, it’s a different story. I can’t seem to find a good one and I’m not thrilled with any of them so I ended up using my old favorite L’OREAL Voluminous X 5 mascara and during the summer the waterproof L’OREAL Paradise Extatic.

From the lipsticks, I’m going to mention four favorites and I kept rotating them the whole time. For my Nude option, I’ve used RIMMEL Kate number 42, and MAC Brave. What I love the most are red and purple shades and so, from the red ones I picked the liquid KYLIE JENNER in the shade Red Velvet. To be completely honest, I’m not even sure if I used any other than this one because I simply love it and the lip liner that comes with it. It’s lasting on your lips is more than great, you don’t even feel it, it doesn’t dry your lips out and it looks to die for. From the purple lipsticks, my definite favorite is MAYBELLINE Super Stay Matte Ink in the shade Creator and it really was the love at first sight.

From the lip liners, my favorites are URBAN DECAY in the shade Pandemonium, KYLIE COSMETICS Red Velvet and RIMMEL Cappuccino.

Eyeliners and eye pencils I didn’t use that much, at the beginning of the year more, then I had a break and after the summer was over I barely even used them so I’m not going to name the favorites, but the ones I love the most are Urban Decay eyeliners and Inglot eye pencils.

And, to end the post in style, as a fixator my favorite MAC Fix +, not the one with golden particles but the regular one. That one I find a bit better, but I don’t have it at the moment 😀

This post was pretty long and maybe I should’ve divided it in two parts, but I somehow like it better when it’s all in one place.

In case you’re more interested in some particular product and you want to know more details, let me know by writing to me and I’ll make sure to write separate reviews on each product.
